Lower Hurst Organic
Welcome to Lower Hurst Farm, as a team we feel it is important that everyone has access to healthier, sustainably produced food that is better for the environment and our health.
To us it matters how we farm, from having healthy soil, to ensuring our animals have the highest standards of animal welfare. Beef products made in our butchery come with full organic certification to give our customers assurance of food they can trust.
We have the flexibility to adapt recipes quickly to meet customers specs and budgets requirements, most recently adding vegetables to some of our most popular lines.
Lower Hurst farm is located just outside the village of Hartington in the Peak District National Park. We farm just over 300 acres of organic pasture, with a herd of Hereford cattle and a small flock of textile sheep.
In 2007 one of the farm building was converted into a modern - day butchery to produce meat products. We employee a team of local staff trained in food production. We use meat from Lower Hurst Farm and other accredited Organic UK farmers, all other ingredients including our packaging is sourced from British companies.
At Lower Hurst we believe in an organic food system where the food is slow grown to produce healthy food, so the most natural way to preserve food until you need it, is to freeze it. We blast freeze all our meats to temperatures of -26C locking in all the freshness, flavour, and nutritional value. The caterer can take exactly the number of portions required helping minimise waste.
The finished product is delivered out from the farm either directly to the caterer locally or to ensure we cut down on food miles we work with several wholesale distribution companies including Holdsworth Food Service, Hopwells and Hannah foods to deliver our goods to customers alongside other basket items.
The distribution of our products is probably the most challenging part of the food chain for the business, we review each customer request and try to come up with a solution. Most recently we had a London based group of schools wanting to take our products but delivery weekly round to 20 schools was not viable from Derbyshire, so we found an independent delivery company in London to hold stock and delivery weekly for us meeting the customers brief and within budget.
NFYFC is a rural youth organisation for those who have a love for agriculture and rural life. YFCs provide their members with opportunities to develop life skills, work with their local communities, have their voice heard, take part in a varied programme and provide a peer support and friendship network.
Glorious Game aims to help increase the appeal of this hugely underappreciated but delicious, lean and nutritious meat. Inspired by her upbringing in the Angus Glens, and her Grandmother, who was a wonderful cook, Sophie has always been obsessed with food but is only too aware that not everyone shares her passion for game, which is often over-looked, or disliked for no good reason.
