Support the hard-working British farmers this British Food Fortnight by buying British trout. British trout has a whole lot going for it…

Tasty and versatile – trout has a very clean and delicate taste which needs very little adding to it. For a quick and delicious meal in minutes simply fry trout fillets in some butter then season with salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon.  However, trout is also a great carrier of other flavours too! If you want a punchy flavour try trout with green curry paste or marinate for 20 minutes in soy sauce, lime, ginger and garlic for an Asian twist.

Pan-fry, poach, bake, barbecue; add cooked trout to salads, wraps, pasta; enjoy smoked trout on bagels, with scrambled eggs or in a pate – it’s endlessly versatile.

Easy to cook - a boneless fillet of trout takes just ten minutes or less to bake or poach depending on the thickness, and a whole trout wrapped in foil is ready in as little as 20 minutes. Even a couple of minutes over won’t matter – it will stay nice and moist because it’s in the oily fish category making it a good choice for novice cooks.

Healthy choice - Registered Nutritionist, Lucy Williamson who says: “We should all be eating trout at least once a week as it’s classed as an oily fish which is packed with antioxidants and Omega 3 – essential for our heart, brain and immune system health. It’s a great way to boost our levels of Vitamin D too as oily fish is one of the very few foods to contain this essential vitamin which otherwise has to come from the action of sunshine on our skin.”

Sustainable – If you care about the environment, British trout is one of the most efficient fish to farm, with minimal waste products, excellent health, clean water, and responsibly sourced feed.
