Great British Pie Challenge

Great British Pie Challenge

A Beef, Potato and Rosemary Pie has been crowned winner of the British Food Fortnight 2024 Great British Pie Challenge. Created by the catering team at University of Huddersfield, the pie used local British beef with potatoes and rosemary grown on University grounds by students and staff.

Love British Food Ambassadors Phil Howard and Ben Bartlett joined Alexia Robinson, Founder, to judge all entries received from schools, universities, hospitals and pubs across the UK before announcing the winner. Phil Howard said: “The winning pie was a well-made and well-conceived classic pie delivering everything you want from a pie – deep flavours, soft and tender textures within and harmonious seasonal flavours. This pie has all three in spades and would surely put a smile on any hungry face.”

Ben Bartlett added: “This comforting, hearty pie was so popular it sold out with customers raving about the quality, presentation and flavours. A superb entry that makes the best use of locally grown fresh ingredients.”

Alexia Robinson concluded: “New for this year, the Challenge encouraged chefs and caterers from all sectors to get involved creating a popular dish using British ingredients.  The response was brilliant and we were delighted the challenge was met with so much enthusiasm.   Congratulations newly crowned winner University of Huddersfield.”
