John Geldard
John Geldard started his farming career in the Lake District with his wife, Rachel, on a tenanted hill farm. He now runs a mixed farm near Kendall which he has developed from a greenfield site and farms 1,000 sheep, a herd of 150 Stabiliser cows and a layer enterprise. He also runs Plumgarths Farm Shop supplying a multiple with a locally sourced product range and supporting over 150 retail and food service outlets as well as other regional farming businesses. He is currently a director of Farmers Fresh, a lamb processing operation with 2,700 farmer shareholders and £100m turnover, and a director of North West Auctions – he had a major role in developing the business on its M6 J36 greenfield site.
He is one of the most inspiring spokespeople in farming and has chaired over 20 industry groups and organisations. and was recognised in the 2019 British Farming Awards when he was awarded the prestigious Winner Outstanding Contribution to British Agriculture.
