The Kings Arms Inn
We can cater for about 50 covers and more if including the benches outside (Another 30). The building dates back to 1649 but the family Goss first took over on May 24th 2004. We have held 2 AA Rosettes for excellence in Cuisine for 12 years now after starting with the one rosette. British Charcuterie Award winner, Rural Oscar Regional Winner and 2 time finalist amongst others. Based in the small county of Rutland, equidistant between Oakham and Uppingham set in stunning countryside, a laid back, relaxed ambiance is complemented by award winning cuisine created by our team of chefs dedicated to providing the finest food in the area. Villagers and visitors will be found side by side at the Kings Arms creating that wonderful British country pub community feel. Our friendly and motivated staff serves traditional, artisan and innovative pub fare on rustic wooden kitchen tables, surrounded by beamed ceilings, flagstone floors & open fires.
The Bar is brimming with a large selection of homemade snacks including, salami’s, biltong, pork scratchings & home smoked cashew nuts from Jimmy's Rutland Smokehouse. Bottles of homemade sloe gin, elderflower vodka and Zermatter mulled wine are all made with berries from the surrounding hedgerows, and fruit from our neighbours.
Why do you do what you do? I am just passionate about food. More importantly local field to fork and nose to tail dining. It is the endless pursuit of minimising waste when an animal has been killed and producing something from as many of its constituent parts as possible that keeps me and my team always evolving and never bored.
What do you enjoy most about your job? The ever-changing nature of the seasons and the culinary challenges they throw up. The tweeking of recipes, meeting new suppliers and strengthening bonds with existing ones. The personal interaction between us and the community at large, gamekeepers, farmers etc
Do you use British Produce? Almost exclusively.
What do you think is best about using British Produce? Less food miles, provenance, we can usually tell a customer where an animal was either shot, dressed, reared or from which farm it came from. With that comes our ability to inform our customers and give them a truly unique experience, we really can tell them about their food because we are so intimately entwined with its sourcing and production. The quality is second to none.
Why should people buy British? Our farmers especially are such a large part of our countryside, not only do they rear, grow, sow, produce, harvest and distribute but also maintain our wonderful British countryside. Without a strong and thriving farming community we would have a very different experience of the countryside. Essentially by buying British we are ensuring the best for our countryside, the communities that provide us with it and also the parts of the rural community that service those that do. It gives people in the countryside jobs, education and a future but also helps to preserve much of our heritage at the same time.
