Scotland The Bread
‘A collaborative project to grow better grain and bake better bread with the common purposes of nourishment, sustainability and food sovereignty.’
This fabulous Community Benefit Society has brought back Scottish heritage grains and is growing, milling and selling Golden Drop, Hunters and Rouge d’Ecosse on Balcaskie Estate in Fife. All three grains are on Slow Food Ark of Taste – details on Ark of Taste pages on this website.
They are selling heritage grains, grown, harvested, threshed and milled in Fife for amateur and professional breadmakers and the results are proving very successful and flavoursome. Many of the entrants to the Scottish Bread Championships now use these grains that are also nutritiously far superior to modern grains.
There is a great resurgence in Real Bread and this is reflected both in the interest for these delicious heritage grains and in the popularity of the Scottish Bread Championships co-founded by Scotland The Bread & Scottish Food Guide.
Available through GreenCity Coop, Ardross Farm Shop and selected farm shops. They also normally have a stand on Bowhouse Market Days and have an excellent online shop.
