Cider is Wine
Wine is fermented exclusively from grapes and this requirement is embedded in EU law. Yet cider in the UK can be made from just 35% juice, all of which can be imported. So a British cider can actually be made only from juice imported from China, for example: hardly authentic as consumers want to drink the real deal.
Cider Is Wine changes that, defining the sector for real, artisan ciders and perries that are naturally lower in alcohol and made from the whole fruit, not-from-concentrate, reflecting where they come from, who produced them, the varietals that made them and event year in which they were harvested.
Look out for the holograms on the bottles of member producers: they mark the 100% juice ciders and perries – the real deal if you like.
The British cider industry is the largest in the world, with the richest heritage, with Cider Is Wine leading the world standard for these ciders. Over half a century ago the French told everyone who was the world leader in wine – now is the time that we can assert British ciders as a leader in quality and not just quantity.
