Public Sector Working Groups

Love British Food was the first food and farming organisation to be invited to sit on the Public Sector Catering magazine’s ‘Most Influential’ industry lobbying group, PSC100. For many years we were the only food and farming organisation in the group.

We are immensely proud of all the relationships we have with industry leaders across the public sector. They are key to our work in achieving more local and British sourcing. Love British Food is now an established promotion in hospitals, schools, care homes, universities and other public sector organisations.

As a result of our achievements, Love British Food was asked by public sector industry leaders to set up two working groups to lead the delivery of more British and local food supply chains in the public sector:

Love British Food Hospitals and Care Catering Working Group

Led by: Alexia Robinson, Love British Food

Chaired by:

Iain Robertson, Catering Services Manager, Solent NHS Trust

Kushboo Naik, Senior Catering Dietitian, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

The groups feature some of the most inspiring people in public sector catering.

The aim of the working groups is to encourage schools, colleges, universities, hospitals and care homes to make British food the first supplier of choice on their menus. The members of each group share their expertise and advice with others in the industry to inspire and encourage them to build relationships with British suppliers.

Every year, we invite all public sector organisations to run a British Food Fortnight menu during the national food celebrations; either promoting British food that is already on their menu or introducing new suppliers. This is not a flag waving exercise for the national food promotion; rather an acknowledgement that the event is a proven catalyst at encouraging people to take action…even if that may be changing a single supplier, potatoes for example!

I am incredibly excited with the aims of the group. Thank you for inspiring us!

It feels we are on the cusp of driving a change in behaviour in using British food.

Phil Shelley, Chair Hospital Food Review

We agreed we need to progress from lobbying for more British and local food in schools.  Let's just get on and do it!

Jeanette Orrey MBE

British Food Fortnight and Love British Food just seem to become more relevant with each passing year.
