Indulge in British food! Seek out in-season fruits and vegetables, quality British meat and some of our country’s fabulous cheeses and dairy produce when you are out shopping and use these to create delicious meals at home. What about trying some of our most traditional dishes, such as Shepherd’s Pie or Apple Crumble, and giving them a modern twist?!

If you have children, consider involving them in the preparation of the meal – British Food Fortnight is a great opportunity to teach them a few cooking skills as well as an appreciation of the pleasures and health benefits of eating good food.

Spiced Spinach and Apple Soup Print Email

You can use frozen spinach instead of fresh spinach.

Ingredients
2 onions, peeled and chopped
1 tbsp sunflower oil
1 Bramley apple, peeled, cored and chopped
600g fresh spinach, well washed and trimmed
1 large potato, peeled and cubed
½ tsp ground coriander
½ tsp ground nutmeg
Zest and juice 1 lemon
700ml vegetable stock
Salt and pepper

Method
Cook the onions and potato in the oil for 2-3 minutes until just starting to soften.

Add the spinach and apple and cook for another 3 minutes.

Add the spices and lemon zest and juice and season well.

Add the stock and bring to the boil.

Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the spinach has wilted and the potatoes are tender.

Liquidise with a soup blender.
