Indulge in British food! Seek out in-season fruits and vegetables, quality British meat and some of our country’s fabulous cheeses and dairy produce when you are out shopping and use these to create delicious meals at home. What about trying some of our most traditional dishes, such as Shepherd’s Pie or Apple Crumble, and giving them a modern twist?!

If you have children, consider involving them in the preparation of the meal – British Food Fortnight is a great opportunity to teach them a few cooking skills as well as an appreciation of the pleasures and health benefits of eating good food.

Mini Turkey Pizza Print E-mail

Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 4
Per serving: 641 kcals 16.9g fat

Ingredients
2 British turkey steaks, diced
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 onion, peeled and chopped
1 carrots, peeled and sliced
1/2 green pepper, de-seeded and diced
1 courgettes, diced
1 x 400g can chopped tomatoes with herbs
4 mini pizza bases
75g cheddar cheese, grated
selection of topping – sweetcorn, pineapple, red and yellow peppers and chives

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190C/170C Fan/Gas 5. Heat oil in a large pan. Add turkey, onion, carrots, pepper and courgette and cook for 5 minutes or until the turkey is cooked and the vegetables are soft.

  2. Add chopped tomatoes and simmer for 5 minutes. If you want to hide the vegetables, process until smooth.

  3. Spread pizza bases with the tomato sauce and sprinkle with cheese. Decorate with a selection of the toppings. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
